Athletes & Celebrities come together in support of educational choice at pre-ESPYS event
LOS ANGELES (July 16, 2014) – Last night the American Federation for Children and the Alliance for School Choice wrapped its Third Annual Champions for Choice in Education Pre-ESPYS Celebration at the Luxe City Center Hotel in Los Angeles.
Athletes and celebrities attend the annual pre-ESPYS event to draw attention to the urgent need to offer children access to quality educational options – no matter their race, family income or ZIP code.
“We were thrilled to have hosted such talented individuals at our Champions for Choice in Education Pre-ESPYS Celebration last night,” said Kevin P. “Educational Choice Now" PSA Released
The American Federation for Children and Alliance for School Choice released a new public service announcement, “Educational Choice Now” at a press conference featuring Hall of Fame football player Deion Sanders and retired-WNBA star and Olympic gold medal winner Lisa Leslie. The PSA released was in conjunction with National School Choice Week and Super Bowl XLVIII celebrations. The PSA features Deion Sanders, Lisa Leslie, Kathie Lee Gifford, Jalen Rose, Lou Gossett, Jr., Vivica Fox, Stephen A. Smith, Keshia Knight Pulliam, “Mary Mary,” Janet Evans, Theotis Beasley, Mary Millben, Laila Ali and Garcelle Beauvais.
Lisa Leslie Celebrates Nationals School Choice Week in D.C.
Champions for Choice in Education ambassador, Lisa Leslie, joined students in Washington, D.C. to celebrate National School Choice Week at Friendship Chamberlain Charter School. The "Put Kids First" celebration also featured U.S. House of Representatives Majority Leader Eric Cantor, AFC executive counsel Kevin P. Chavous, and Shree Medlock of the Black Alliance for Educational Options. Lisa spoke to the crowd of more than 200 parents, students, teachers, and education reform activists about the need to empower parents with educational choices such as charter schools, vouchers, and education savings accounts.
